It takes a lot to get your home just the way you want it. Most of us focus on the inside and leave the outside waiting. Landscaping can be costly, a pain in the neck and let’s be honest…it’s not really where you want to spend your money! However, with the right creativity and inspiration you can get your home looking great both inside and out.
It’s all about highlighting your home’s character and creating an inviting property. Let us help (these ideas are actually do-able, whether your thumb is green or brown!)…
- A fresh coat of paint on your front door can really change things up. Look at this as the lipstick to your home. It may not look like it needs it, but as soon as you put it on you see how much of a difference it has made. Whether you’re changing the look completely by choosing a different color or just freshening it up, a new coat of paint will do just the thing. This curb appeal will get your creative juices flowing and the rest will follow.
- Updating hardware, adding numbers or even a mail slot. These simple additions can really create a vibe that speaks to your personality. Research options on Pinterest or in a magazine and decide the design aesthetic direction you like best. Trust us, a little extra hardware can take your home to new heights.
- Potted plants on a doorstep are something we love. Yes, because they are easy. But also because they can add so much volume to an entryway. Look for pots that can cover any season and you can fill them as needed. Not all of us have a green thumb or even an interest to try for that matter so keep in mind that many local florists or gardening centers, like the Garden Center at Home Depot in Jupiter, FL offer already created arrangements to plop right into those pots! You can also drop your pots off to florists, give them an idea of a design you’re looking to create, and they can execute for you.
- Fencing in front of, around or even just on the driveway side is another way to establish a more personal tone to your home from the outside in. It is a welcoming piece that shows the thought you’ve put into creating your space. This option may be more practical for some if they have a pet at home they’d like to keep fenced in. Form and function – perfect!
- Illuminating your front path can add warmth and security. What a great first impression for those trotting up to your home! It is easy to tuck solar-powered spotlights into your walkway flower beds and aim them along the walkway.
- More updating, but for real - do you love the fixture(s) that adorn your entry? If not, give them a boost…a “you” boost! Take a second to really find what you love and create your space outdoors just as you would indoors. Note that exterior fixtures take a beating from elements so this is one category that we think is worth spending a little extra on.
- Spruce up your shrubs. We are all culprits of those lazy “leggy” branches. Hopefully pruning some lengthy non-greenery branches back and keeping things tidy can also help.
Curb appeal is not difficult to obtain and can be fun. A little bit of time, thought and care can really transform your home into a place you are excited to drive up to for years to come!
