Fall Ideas for Your Home

Sep 7, 2022

Whether you live in a forever warm climate or you live in the ever-changing seasons, it is nice and easy to fall into the fall mood. Summer is a busy time. Autumn allows us to take a deep breath and focus on things that make us whole again. Such as organization and getting our homes in the mental space we desire and (let’s be honest) need. No matter where you reside, the sun will start going down earlier now. Time to start adjusting our spaces and surroundings so we can mentally adjust our mental clocks and thrive!

New schedules have started and a new season has begun. This is exciting! Let’s get inspired and encouraged. Fall doesn’t always have to mean darker colors and closed windows. In fact, this time of year offers a great chance to expand on freshness and newness. Shed a new light on a new season, a new perspective on new surroundings.

We have a few easy methods to brighten up homes and get them ready for those winter/holiday vibes. One of our favorite ways to add a bit of texture to our personal space is by throwing in a throw. Throw blankets and pillows are inexpensive and an easy way to revive the look of a room or space. Throws offer a bit of warmth and a bit of personal all in one. There isn’t a throw blanket or pillow we’ve met and haven’t liked. Displaying them means they are there when we need them most and also tells our guests we want them to be comfy in our space. Maybe there is an extra throw in a closet tucked away for “maybe”. Now is the perfect time to get it out and displayed in order for the house to really feel like a home.

Another way we look to step into this new, vibrant season is by filling our home with warm scents. Choosing a scent that works for any mood is important. A candle can do this while adding a bit of décor to an area of a room. However, our new favorite go-to (especially in a powder room) are Reed Scent Diffusers. These are beautiful looking and smelling. The best part of this scent booster is that it is possible to adjust the amount of fragrance that comes out by managing how many reeds (sticks) are kept in the bottle. Reed diffusers offer a fresh smell while not permeating the entire home. Perfumes are personal and should be chosen by the person(s) that occupy the space.

There are lots of tricks to refreshing a home, especially if the goal is to not fully invest either time or money (or both!). One trick is to get your home’s artwork in order. Sometimes when moving into a home, it is standard to feel rushed or pressure to get items hung and make the spaces feel lived in immediately. While this is not a bad strategy, sometimes (especially when seasons start to change) we realize that the way the home décor was originally set up may not work for the home’s current flow. It’s time to reevaluate and possibly even discover some new inspiration. Artwork in a home can really jump start one’s stimulation and motivation. Whether kids are starting back to school or it is time for a fresh start, the autumn season is a great time to get situated. Think about what currently hangs on the walls. What would make a positive change? What doesn’t inspire and create happiness? Maybe start pinning or googling to find local artists that may offer an aesthetic worth desiring. The possibilities are endless! Mood boards are excellent tools in arranging a room to our personal inspiration standards as well.

Rugs can always add warmth to a space. Adding a rug to a room or area can ground a space and really give it a comfortable feel. Ambiance is everything, especially in the autumn and winter months since more time is typically spent indoors.

Whether a new schedule dictates what the autumn months ahead will look like or its time to change the mental picture of the home’s surroundings, we hope these tips help ease the home into this new season with optimism, tranquility and happiness!
