Having organized kitchen cabinets, especially for those who love to cook, is key. Organized cabinets lead to happier, more efficient cooks. The trick is creating as much space as possible. Follow these five organization tips for decluttering your kitchen cabinets and making your life easier!
1. File your baking sheets, cutting boards and muffin tins.
There is nothing more annoying then trying to pull out a baking sheet from beneath four others when you are in the kitchen and trying to get things done. Instead of storing your baking sheets, cutting boards and muffin tins on top of one another, store them vertically and use a divider to space them out.
2. Use drawer dividers – even in your “junk drawer”.
Even if you don’t organize like items together, using drawer dividers will help you to find your kitchen utensils much quicker. The dividers keep the tools from sliding around, mixing up and getting lost underneath one another. If possible, do try to store like items together so you get used to where they are each time you need them.
3. Use a tiered spice rack.
Trying to find the spices or herbs you need can be frustrating when you’re looking at them from the same angle. Invest in a tiered spice rack for easy organization and a much better advantage for when you are cooking and need to find the right spice (before your sauce burns).
4. Lazy Susans and turntables are your best friends.
When possible, have a Lazy Susan installed in any corner cabinet spaces; otherwise, you will end up with wasted/dead cabinet space. For regular cabinets, smaller turntables are the way to go for easy access to your condiments, jarred sauces and canned items.
5. Clean out your cabinets every three months.
Discard expired products, plan meals based on nearly expired items and make sure like items are stored together. It’s easy to forget what you purchased on a whim months ago, so clean out your cabinets regularly to stay on top of it and avoid wasting food.
