2022 Home Resolution Solutions for the New Year

Dec 31, 2021

Are you starting to feel the guilt set in? You know…you feel as if you need to make a New Year’s resolution (list?!). Even if you do find an intention or a few intentions to resolve in the new year a guilty feeling may still start to brew if you don’t stick to your plan. And if you really don’t stick to your plan? Well, then, that’s a whole other story.

How about this? How about you start small. How about you start with your home? Small home improvement projects around the house that will make enough of a difference that by the end of the “new” year you will naturally be in a much better position than when you clinked cocktail glasses at 12AM on January 1st. By the way, it really doesn’t take much. A few touch-ups, some cleaning and a fresh eye. Voila! Join us as we breakdown a few easy home resolution solutions for you to slowly and swiftly delight in throughout your 2022…

Install a new faucet (really, any faucet that may need an upgrade/face lift - shower head?).

Sometimes the gadgets we use every day are the ones that get overlooked the most! When was the last time you gave your faucets a deep cleaning? Did you even pick out your faucet/s? If not, do you even like them? This is an upgrade that is easy and can really add your flavor to the mix of the room. Sometimes just a deep clean is all it may need, but if you want to make it your own think about replacing it altogether. After all, you are constantly using and looking at it so you may as well love it, right?!

Patch holes in walls

Sometimes we are moving so fast to get our home setup and decorated that we overlook things like holes in the walls. Whether they were put there by accident, the previous owners left behind their dirty work, or you changed your mind on where Grandma’s heirloom mirror should hang, covering up those holes can make a huge difference on your overall indoor landscape. Occasionally, it is a good idea to walk around with a paintbrush and your wall colors in-hand to spruce up high-traffic areas as well. Trust us, these little touches will make your home feel clean and fresh!

Replace interior doors

You can repaint your bedroom and/or room doors or replace them altogether! We love this idea because the door really is the part of a room that sets the tone. We’ve shared this with you previously and if you really think about it, you can head down so many aesthetic avenues with this redesign. Think about how the room functions and what flare you may be able to add to your home via your doors.

Go Eco

Switch your cleaning products to an eco-friendly bunch. There are lots of do-it-yourself resources online to swap out your chemical-based spray cleaner to a more natural, less toxic option. To get started, all you need is a spray bottle. Easy.

Start caring for your hardwood flooring

Since we’re on the topic of cleaning, keep your hardwood floors looking pristine by taking a few simple steps (on your floors haha) in the right direction. The good news is that hardwood floors are fuss-free. They are easy to clean. However, they do tend to get the shaft when it comes to maintenance. Start by sweeping your floors. Get all of the dust and small dirt particles gone by using a microfiber mop. Try this every day or every other day for upkeep.

Make sure you have the right vacuum. You want to use a soft-bristled attachment so you can softly grab the debris that may cause scratches. When it comes to mopping, you want to be sure that your mop head is not too saturated with water and cleaning solution. Also, try to steer clear of products full of chemicals as these may damage the wood. Make sure to respond to spills quickly to avoid liquid settling into the wood.

(Another tip is to keep felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratching if the furniture gets moved.)

Add a window box

Do you have a favorite window to look out from? Is there a central spot you tend to welcome your guests from outside? A window box on an exterior window adds character. We love window boxes because they are easy to maintain and they can be really fun to design seasonally.

We wish you a fresh, happy and comfortable 2022! Here’s to making doable resolutions and sticking to them! Hopefully the list above brings you inspiration to get your 2022 in full swing!
